James T. Plunkett
Jim Plunkett was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia, attended local public schools and graduated from Westside High School in 1980. He attended Augusta College (now Augusta University) and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1984 with a BBA in Finance. Mr. Plunkett attended the University of Georgia School of Law, receiving the book award in Partnership Tax and graduating cum laude in 1987.
Upon graduation from law school Mr. Plunkett began practicing law with his father, Paul Plunkett. Subsequently, Steve Shepard joined their practice and the firm was renamed Plunkett, Shepard & Plunkett, the predecessor to Plunkett, Hamilton, Manton & Graves &, LLP.
From the beginning of his practice, Mr. Plunkett has focused on business related issues involving commercial and residential real estate, corporate and business law, franchise agreements, and bankruptcy matters as well as assisting individuals in estate and probate matters and related litigation. Most recently, he has expanded his practice to include municipal law matters, particularly those involving economic development.
Mr. Plunkett is a member of the Augusta and American bar associations,as well as the National Association of Bond Lawyers, and served as Treasurer of the Augusta Bar Association in 1996 and 1997.He currently serves as President of the University of Georgia Augusta Alumni Chapter and the Board of Augusta Bulldog Club and is also a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta and the Exchange Club of Augusta. A graduate of Leadership Augusta, Mr. Plunkett has previously served on the board of the Metro Augusta Chamber of Commerce, the Augusta Symphony League, the CSRA Girls Scout Council the Family Counseling Center of Augusta and has previously been involved with the Augusta Arts Council, Boy Scouts and Historic Augusta.
Mr. Plunkett is also an instructor in the Hull School of Business at Augusta University, having taught classes in Estate Planning, Business Law and the Legal Environment of Business.
Mr. Plunkett and his wife, Mary Anne, have three daughters and live in Augusta.
